Decades of outdoor design & construction experience at your doorstep

Alan Burke, asla - I am a licensed landscape architect with over 40 years of experience in the landscape and construction industry. My works have won numerous awards, including 'Best of Show' at the NW Flower & Garden Show, 'Best of Houzz' and 5-star ratings on Angie's List. Before I started juggling this bag o' cats at OPC,, my Julie and I owned & managed Classic Nursery & Landscape Company for over 20 years, and sold the company in 2021. I have designed, built and managed thousands of projects - and look forward to helping design and build a beautiful, functional and on-budget outdoor space for you!

Being insufferable to be around in retirement meant going back to what he is passionate about: helping homeowners build beautiful and affordable outdoor spaces. I have years of experience and can work with construction professional that you may be working with. If you aren’t already coordinating work with a contractor, I know the architect, builders and small contractors that can help assemble your work.

I have worked on a wide range of projects as a practicing landscape architect in The Puget Sound area - and formerly in Los Angeles. The Seattle Times Pacific Northwest Magazine, The Los Angeles Times Magazine, Northwest Home+Garden and American Home Magazine have all featured my design work. Invited to prepare a plan by editors at Sunset Magazine, my design for a residential garden design is displayed on the back cover of the first edition of The Sunset Western Landscaping Book. I am a graduate of the University of South Florida and University of Florida (Go Gators!), I am a contributor to the books Residential Landscape Design and Landscape Design: A Practical Approach. Ed Hume has profiled my work on his show Gardening in America. As a pioneer in digital imaging, I was featured by Evening newsmagazine and my work has been presented on City TV in Toronto, a CBS television special and on The ABC Home Show. I have written for landscape industry publications and lectured at universities and trade organizations throughout the country. I have designed and supervised the installation for thousands of homes and have been designing and building outdoor environments all over the Puget Sound for four decades.

I managed a number of landscape architects and design/build firms and started work with Classic back in 1998. With my wife Julie, a former project manager for Starbucks, we purchased Classic Nursery & Landscape Company soon after. Our team’s outdoor projects have earned numerous Grand Awards and Awards of Distinction from the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals. As host to hundreds of schoolchildren viewing salmon runs at their former Bear Creek facility annually, our former company was presented with a King County Green Globe Award for efforts in habitat restoration and wildlife education.

Our public installations include a number of exhibits created for the Northwest Flower & Garden Show. "The Millennium Railway", was the recipient of gold, silver and bronze medals, including a Peoples Choice award and ASLA award. Our team later created "Mirabilia", a medieval garden at the show entry on the Skywalk over Pike Street. Our next Garden Show display marked the bicentennial of the expedition of the Corps of Discovery. Titled "Portage to the Pacific", this garden exhibited a mix of ancient Columbia River tribal artifacts and memorabilia from Lewis & Clark's journey - in a garden filled with native plants taken from Lewis' journals. Built by the Classic team in three days, this special exhibit garden received the Founder's Cup as "Best of Show" from a team of international judges. The most recent garden at NWFGS was the Gold medal award-winning "La Palabra Pintada", built in collaboration with New York Times bestselling author/artist Nick Bantock (Griffin & Sabine, The Artful Dodger).

I live with my wife Julie in Seattle and have three wonderful grown kids, really the most meaningful project of all.

Enough about me, let’s talk about you.
