To lift or not to lift — that is the October question.
In our mildest pockets, a thick blanket of mulch will carry dahlias straight through winter, and they'll wake up in spring like nothing happened. Everywhere else, it's the garage, the paper bag, and the annual ritual of labeling tubers you swear you'll remember.
I'll be honest: I'm both a gambler and a lifter, depending on the cultivar and how much I paid for it. What do you do? Are you team mulch-and-hope, or team lift-and-store?
