It’s hard to keep up with the blog these days, what with the APLD ‘Designers on Design” blog and the Facebook postings. You’ll find the most up to date information on what we’re doing on our Facebook page — take a moment to visit us there, ‘like’ us if you haven’t already, and post any comments you might have.
On another front, I’ve always been interested in developments in online plant databases. With the myriad of plants available locally and regionally, when you consider size, habit, zone viability and pricing, not to mention leaf shape, flower color and bark characteristics, well...it’s a lot to consider. I’ve been building an internal estimating system that takes into account local building materials, plant availability, pricing and square-footage calculations, equipment use and production rates. Sometimes though, we just throw it all in a blender and make a “swag” or what we call in our industry a “super wild a-- guess” and hope for the best.
That noted, this is one of my recent favorite new plant databases, an international effort to catalog the full scope of existing world-wide plant materials and tie it to the Google image database.
Now if they can get some local availability and pricing included, we might have something here…
